VenueMcNichols Main Stage: The Nature of Things
StatementNicholas de Monchaux is and architect and urbanist whose work resides at the complex interchange between natural and manmade systems. His radically pragmatic propositions include an architectural history of the Apollo Spacesuit (forthcoming from MIT Press), site-specific installations, and complex, multi-site urban designs. His recent urban proposals range from the singular and temporary - such as an award-winning proposal for a floating Olympic Village for the 2004 Athens games, or a temporary 9/11 memorial proposed with Julie Bargmann - to complex, distributed proposals, such as recent work highlighting the potential ecological utility of leftover urban space in New York, San Francisco, and other American cities.
