Roundtable Series: Islandness: Caribbean Diaspora & Belonging

The September 2025 roundtable will explore the experiences of Caribbean diasporic communities in Colorado, focusing on identity, belonging, and the memory of island life. From legacies of migration to the present-day contributions of Caribbean-born and Caribbean-descended leaders, the conversation will highlight the richness, resilience, and evolving narratives of island communities in the Mountain West.

Playwright Linda Parris-Bailey will join the discussion with reflections from her work Yankee Bajan (Creative Capital Premiere), a play with music directed by Dahlak Brathwaite and featuring the compositions of H. Stefan Walcott and designs by Russell Watson. The play tells the story of an African-American family confronting racism in the United States and seeking home in Barbados—opening a dialogue on diaspora, repatriation, and cultural memory that will frame and enrich this roundtable.

The Biennial of the Americas Roundtable Series is a monthly gathering of leaders from business, civic, and cultural sectors to explore timely and provocative topics that shape the Americas. This series fosters meaningful dialogue by bringing together diverse voices to examine the histories, innovations, and lived experiences that define our shared future.
