Dr. Sue Rowley

Dr. Susan Rowley is the Director of the Museum of Anthropology (MOA) at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and an Associate Professor in UBC's Department of Anthropology. She earned her Ph.D. in archaeology from Cambridge University.
Her research interests encompass public archaeology, material culture studies, repatriation, intellectual property rights, access to cultural heritage, Arctic archaeology, oral history, and representation.
Dr. Rowley's career includes significant collaborations with Indigenous communities. Since 2005, she has served on the Steering Group of the Reciprocal Research Network (RRN), a partnership among the Musqueam Indian Band, the Stó:lō Nation/Tribal Council, the U’mista Cultural Society, and MOA.
She has co-curated notable exhibitions such as "c̓əsnaʔəm, the city before the city," a collaborative project with the Musqueam community, and "The Fabric of Our Land: Salish Weaving," which highlights Indigenous textile traditions.
Dr. Rowley joined UBC in 2001 and was appointed Director of MOA in 2021.
