Irma Hernández is the current Mayor of San Miguelito, Panama, a young lawyer and municipal leader committed to public service and community transformation. She assumed office on July 1, 2024, after being elected through a free nomination (libre postulación), becoming the most voted mayoral candidate in the history of San Miguelito and reflecting a strong mandate for independent, citizen-driven leadership. She holds a degree in Law and Political Science from Universidad Católica Santa María La Antigua (USMA). From an early age, she demonstrated strong leadership and civic engagement, notably winning Panama’s National Oratory Contest with a speech focused on youth participation in democracy.

Her professional career began in the Municipality of San Miguelito, where she served as Secretary of Youth, leading initiatives that promoted civic participation, cultural development, and opportunities for young people. She later worked at the National Assembly as Chief of Staff to Congressman Juan Diego Vásquez, where she contributed to municipal policy discussions and decentralization efforts. In addition to her practical experience, Hernández has pursued continuous academic and professional development, completing programs in leadership, governance, public management, and political communication, as well as specialized studies in regional and local management.

As Mayor, she is focused on strengthening local governance, promoting transparency, and improving quality of life in San Miguelito. Her administration prioritizes community participation, urban organization, and sustainable development, working toward her vision of “San Miguelito más bonito”, building a safer, more inclusive, and more organized district.
