Biennial of the Americas 2019

The 2019 Biennial of the Americas Festival transformed Denver into a hub of dialogue, creativity, and cultural exchange. Over four days, leaders, artists, and communities from across the hemisphere came together to share ideas, build connections, and celebrate the cultural vibrancy of the Americas.

Festival Highlights

Business & Civic Exchange

  • Americas Symposium:

    • Featured keynote entrepreneur and sustainability leader Sir Richard Branson, who discussed leadership, innovation, and environmental responsibility.

  • Clínica Workshops:

    • Nine interactive sessions explored cross-sector solutions on housing innovation, sustainable mobility, inclusive workplaces, AI ethics, education, and consumer trends.

  • Diversity & Inclusion Luncheon:

    • Brought together leaders to address equity in business and civic spaces.

  • Conversations with Gen Z:

    • Connected youth voices with local, national, and international leaders on the future of equity and inclusion.

ARTS & Culture

  • Jaguara Installation:

    • A collaborative artistic centerpiece raising awareness about rainforest conservation.

  • Cósmico Americas Festival:

    • A free community celebration in Civic Center Park with performances by Systema Solar, Kiltro, and Canalón de Timbiquí.

  • Public Art & Performances:

    • Installations and works by Carlos Martiel (Cuba), Suchitra Mattai (Guyana/Denver), Adriana Ramírez (Colombia), Jeroen Koolhaas (Netherlands), and Anuar Maauad (Mexico).

    • Empathy Museum — an interactive, traveling art experience inviting audiences to “walk a mile in someone else’s shoes,” fostering connection and understanding through storytelling.

  • Cultural Programs:

    • Latin Beats: Sonidos de las Américas concert with the Colorado Symphony and Mexican Cultural Center.

    • Black Americas Project Dinner and Ozomatli concert highlighting the impact of the African diaspora.

    • Empathy Through Film screenings and discussions in partnership with SeriesFest and Bloomberg Philanthropies.
