In this CultureHop, we will experience a rare, behind-the-scenes look at the dramatic final stages of firing the Denver Anagama, a massive, 35-foot woodfire kiln built in 2015. This event brings together nearly 30 artists from across the country to fire over 1,000 ceramic pieces over the course of six days. With our visit falling toward the end of this intense process, participants will get to see the kiln at its hottest, surrounded by live fire and active studio teamwork.
In addition to the kiln firing, we will tour the La Serra Design porcelain production studio and La Serra Studios' residency spaces. Time permitting, the group may also have the option to tour Balistreri Winery, a local estate deeply connected to La Serra through shared history, values, and proximity.
About La Serra Collective
La Serra is an organization dedicated to the belief that those who engage with the arts are more empathetic, think in more nuanced ways, and have deeper meaning and purpose in life. Problematically, though, the way art is defined and exists in our culture has many barriers to entry and does not fully deliver on this potential. Our mission is to promote a new cultural definition, understanding and means of experiencing art. La Serra has three branches to deliver on this mission La Serra Studios, La Serra Design and La Serra In Bloom. Culture Hop participants will learn about where we are trying to go as an organization and all we have accomplished so far while experiencing the exciting activities taking place on site. https://laserracollective.org/
