Kerry Tipper
University of Colorado
VP & University Counsel
Kerry Tipper is a Denver-based attorney who serves as Vice President and University Counsel for the University of Colorado (CU), acting as their chief legal officer and a top strategic advisor to leadership. She is the first woman and first Latina in the University’s history to hold this role.
Before joining CU, Tipper served as Denver City Attorney under Mayors Mike Johnston and Michael Hancock. There, she led a team of more than 225 people and advised a wide range of city officials and agencies. She previously represented Lakewood in the Colorado House of Representatives from 2019 to 2023, and before that worked as an assistant attorney general in both Massachusetts and Colorado, as well as a litigator at WilmerHale in Boston. Her career has centered on public service and reflects a diverse background that blends legal expertise with legislative, political, and governmental experience.
Tipper spent her early childhood in Mexico and Costa Rica before her family relocated to Colorado during her grade school years. She is a graduate of the University of Denver and Northeastern University School of Law. She lives in Lakewood with her husband and their two young children and enjoys spending as much of her free time with them as possible—preferably camping, skiing, swimming, or traveling.
