Empathy Museum
Clare Patey
Established in 2015 by artist Clare Patey, Empathy Museum explores how empathy can not only transform our personal relationships but also help tackle global challenges such as prejudice, conflict and inequality. “A Mile in My Shoes” is Empathy Museum’s traveling exhibition which invites people to literally walk a mile in someone else’s shoes while listening to the story of that person’s life. The exhibit visited Denver as part of the Biennial of the Americas 2019 Festival. The theme for the 2019 Biennial of the Americas Festival was “Empathy in Action,” Empathy Museum provides an opportunity for the community to think about and experience empathy leading up to the festival. A Mile in My Shoes received over 4,000 visitors and featured 30 Denver storytellers, including Dafna Michaelson Jenet, Suzi Q. Smith and Ryan Foo. Featured programming included an opening reception on August 8, 2019.
