Biennial Culture CLub Presents
2027 Culture Trip
YUCATÁN
Join the Biennial of the Americas for the 2027 Culture Trip to Mérida, Mexico, from January 28–31, 2027.
Set against the backdrop of the Bienal de Yucatán and WAY — Week of Art Yucatán, the trip offers an immersive look at a region where contemporary art, architecture, design, craft, and a deep sense of place increasingly intersect.
Over four days, Culture Club members will experience exhibitions, independent galleries and project spaces, private artist studios, architecture and design destinations, and conversations with artists and cultural leaders shaping Yucatán’s evolving creative landscape.
The itinerary will move between Mérida’s historic center and the broader peninsula, pairing contemporary cultural experiences with distinctive regional cuisine, architecture, and traditions.

Suggested area: Stay in Centro Histórico, especially around Santa Lucía, Santa Ana, and the lower Paseo de Montejo. This area gives the best balance of walkability, restaurants, galleries, architecture, and easy access to Mérida’s main cultural sites.
~$110–160
Santa Lucía / Centro
Best pure walkability. Small 9-room boutique hotel around a courtyard and pool; relaxed, colorful, colonial feel. Paloma Hotels
~$120–170
Santa Ana / lower Paseo de Montejo
Only 7 suites. Quiet, intimate and more refined than rustic; historic character with a contemporary boutique treatment. Very good Culture Trip fit. Casa Tavera
~$140–200
La Mejorada / eastern Centro
The NYT-recommended option. Feels like a garden sanctuary: historic casona, mature trees, pools and individually designed rooms. Slightly less central than Santa Lucía, but still walkable. Quinto Distrito
~$250–265
Centro, near Plaza Grande
Strongest architecture/design option. Restored 19th-century building with original walls, frescoes, stone floors, modern/brutalist touches and lush courtyards. Grupo Habita + Design Hotels. Marriott
~$285+
Paseo de Montejo
Most established luxury/design choice. Two restored colonial mansions, strong local materials, terraces, spa and a destination restaurant. More polished and romantic than the others. Marriott
