Join Culture Club on our visit to the Aurora Cultural Arts District, Aurora’s only Colorado Creative Industries–certified Arts District, as we highlight DAVA, a youth-centered arts organization supporting creative learning and expression and their latest exhibition Art of the Revolution.
ABOUT DAVA & ART OF THE REVOLUTION:
Downtown Aurora Visual Arts (DAVA) provides arts education programs for urban youth ages 3 to 17 in Original Aurora, Colorado. Our mission is to strengthen the community through the visual arts with youth engagement as the primary focus. Every student that walks through our doors experiences the transformative power of high quality out-of-school programs that develop art, social, and life skills.
Art of the Revolution, DAVA's newest exhibition, showcases young artists from preschool through high school using printmaking, ceramics, painting, sculpture, fashion, and video to explore the issues shaping their world. The show spans generations and mediums, from the youngest artists' community medals celebrating change-makers, to activist posters by ages 6-14, relief-printed ceramic tiles by middle schoolers, and ambitious multimedia work by high schoolers, including large-scale print scrolls and fabric patches created after learning relief engraving from guest artist Johanna Mueller. Through a partnership with Warm Cookies of the Revolution, students found their civic voice on issues like gun violence, gender inequality, healthcare, and climate change, with student films and fashion projects connecting this work to DAVA's long history of youth activism. Bold, personal, and provocative, the exhibition invites visitors to see today's issues through young eyes and witness the next generation making its voice impossible to ignore.
About ACAD:
The Aurora Cultural Arts District is Aurora's only Colorado Creative Industries certified Arts District. Located in the NW corner of the city, it focuses heavily on performing arts venues (The Aurora Fox Arts Center, Vintage Theatre, The People's Building, Roshni Is Light, 1400 Dallas, Manos Sagrados, Roaming Gnome, & the new Storyteller Theatre), global cuisine (Mango House, Stanley Marketplace), and youth & family programming (DAVA & MLK Library). Sept 4th is an especially fun day with 2 new murals being painted and live music and DJ's at district venues all over the neighborhood that evening.
