For our November Culture Club event, we’re teaming up with Denver Film Fest for a special screening of The Secret Agent at Denver Botanic Gardens.
Set in Brazil in 1977, the film follows a widowed academic and technology expert who finds himself on the run after clashing with a corrupt minister eager to seize his research. Hoping to reunite with his young son, he escapes to Recife during carnival week—only to find that violence shadows the city’s celebrations.
Director Kleber Mendonça Filho transforms this story of survival into a richly layered thriller blending political intrigue with dark comedy. The Secret Agent earned Best Director and Best Actor honors at the Cannes Film Festival. Yet even this description can’t prepare you for the film’s zigzagging subplots and cinematic surprises—an eccentric, affectionate ode to Brazil, to cinema, and to the fight for individuality amid abuses of power.
This is a Culture Club Member Event. RSVP is required.
