Join Culture Club at Plinth Gallery for a private look at Geologic Time, a solo exhibition of new carved ceramic sculptures by Aaron Sturtz. Grounded in years of climbing and canyoneering in the American West, Sturtz's work translates the compression, erosion, and rhythm of canyon landscapes into an intimate, tectonic sculptural language. Fired until the clay darkens, hardens, and cracks, each piece echoes the very geologic processes that shaped it.

About Aaron Sturtz

Aaron Sturtz left New York for the open spaces of the American West at seventeen. After a year of climbing and backcountry living, he enrolled in the California College of the Arts, where he committed to sculpture and graduated with High Distinction. His first solo exhibition, The First Souvenir of the Sixth Extinction, followed the next year at Freedom Box Gallery in Portland. After graduate study at Lewis & Clark College, Aaron spent years teaching art and working as a school leader, continuing his studio practice and his climbing and canyoneering privately while raising two children. He recently completed an invitational residency at the Buffalo Creek Art Center and now returns to full-time studio work.
