The Biennial of the Americas’ Culture Club invites members to a hands-on creative workshop led by artist SA Bennett, in collaboration with Pulse Art Gallery. This immersive experience centers on self-exploration, storytelling, and cultural symbolism through the creation of a personal Adinkra mudcloth-inspired artwork.
Participants will be guided through the history and meaning of West African Adinkra symbols and invited to select symbols that resonate with their identity, values, or intentions—such as protection, growth, or connection. Using these symbols, each participant will design a repeat pattern and resist-style composition to create a symbolic self-portrait rooted in proclamation and reflection.
The workshop emphasizes creative expression as a form of personal narrative, inviting participants to reflect on who they are, what they seek, and what they stand for—while engaging with traditions originating in Ghana and Mali.
Coffee and pastries will be available throughout the morning, creating a relaxed, communal setting that encourages conversation and creative flow.
